The Results are In !

We have had a great response to our competition with updates and leader changes happening all the time. Our sincere thanks go to all of the competition entrants who made this such a fascinating event for our 25th Anniversary.

We felt that as the sunflower is the national flower of Ukraine, we would link this competition to the current crisis in that country. As a result, a very kind sponsor has agreed to donate £20 per foot of the winner’s plant to one of the Ukraine humanitarian appeals.

We had never imagined the size that some of the sunflowers would get to which presented a bit of a challenge when it came to measuring them. But measure them they did and here are the results…

In 3rd place is Diana Pont and her granddaughter Millie who planted the seed. It grew to 3.14 metres (that’s 10′ 3½” in old money).

In Second place, with an impressive 3.73m (12’3″) self-seeded sunflower came Gill Snedden.

But by a short head, the winner is Anne Govier with a magnificent sunflower measuring 3.84m (12′ 7″) which had also self seeded.
